June 21st at IICOkids: Learning English Through Songs, Stories & Crafts
1. What we did in the lesson
Today we held an English lesson for children using
music, movement, picture books, and craft activities.
We started with a greeting song where the children
sang, walked, and shook hands while introducing
themselves.
Next, we talked about the rainy season and sang the
song “Rain, Rain” together with simple hand
movements. After the song, we read the picture book
“Here’s an Umbrella for You.” The children listened
to the story while following the different animals and
rain sounds.
Then we played the Umbrella Game, where the
children placed umbrellas on the correct animal cards
and made different rain sound effects. After that, we
sang the Froggy Song.
Later, we enjoyed another picture book and finished
the lesson by making a Teru-teru Bozu (weather
doll). We ended the class with a goodbye song and a
short closing message.
2. What I taught the students
The goal of this lesson was to help children learn
English through songs, stories, games, and hands-on
activities. The main focus was on:
• greetings (Hello, How are you?)
• weather vocabulary (rain, umbrella, sunny)
• animals (elephant, giraffe, ant, bear, frog)
• colors
• simple action words (jump, walk, shake, hug)
I also encouraged the children to participate by
singing, moving, and responding to simple English
instructions.

3. How did I make it easy to understand
I used simple English, repetition, gestures, and
demonstrations before each activity. Songs with
movements helped the children understand the
meaning of new words naturally.
Picture books, animal cards, and colorful materials
gave visual support throughout the lesson. During the
craft activity, I explained each step slowly and
encouraged the children to follow along. I also smiled,
maintained eye contact, and stayed at the children’s
eye level to create a comfortable learning
environment.
4. The student’s favourite part
The children especially enjoyed the Umbrella Game
and the Froggy Song because they could move their
bodies, make fun rain sounds, and jump to different
colors. They were also excited to make their own
Teru-teru Bozu craft at the end of the lesson.
5. My favourite part
My favourite part of the lesson was seeing the
children actively participating in the songs and games.
They smiled, laughed, and became more confident
using simple English during the activities. I also
enjoyed the craft activity because every child was
excited to create their own weather doll and proudly
show their finished work
